I wandered lonely as a cloud, feminine or masculine? poem included.?

June 152010

I WANDERED lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o’er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay: 10
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
In such a jocund company:
I gazed–and gazed–but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood, 20
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

Neither, it is a commentary on the inner being and how the speaker makes him/herself smile when thinking about nature.

It is typically thought to be masculine because of the writer.

A method for serverless resource sharing?

May 272010

Hi. I have this strange idea and I want to know if it’s something. It’s supposed to be a solution for hosting files/sites or running web services without a server (so that you don’t have to use a costly server or have to keep your pc turned on all the time – the server is actually a bunch of powered on computers in a group). This can be useful if you want to host something that doesn’t consume a lot of resources, e.g. a personal site as otherwise you have to pay for a lot of unnecessary space which you’re not going to need and costs too much. Here it is:

Basically the solution is a system which sorts the users into groups of around 15 – 30. The group’s resources can be something like a virtual server or a bunch of files. Every user in the group gets a copy of the resources and whenever they get updated. every user gets the update as soon as their computer is turned on. That way when someone wants to access a certain resource only 1 of those 15 – 30 computers has to be turned on and that way the resources are practically always available and the users can host what they need to without having to keep their computer on all the time. Now this of course is made for hosting small stuff like a website and not ram & cpu consuming programs as every user has to be able to host the remaining users’ resources.

Is there a technology that does this and if not how stupid is my idea? This is not quite the same as p2p or cloud hosting. I found this program called Orisis (osiris.kodeware.net) but it doesn’t give you the full freedom that you have on a server and it’s really unpopular.

The problem is this: without a server, then who has the master copy? How do you prevent two people from trying to save different changes at the same time? Those resources would get badly corrupted after a short period of time.

what do you think this line means?

My cry will ascend to heaven and cut through hosts of angels. Feather and flesh will shriekingly fall
from atop the clouds onto my childhood.

Means he will be letting out a holler the like of which has never been heard.

i can’t seem to find the possible connotations of the word "host" in line 4 or the possible connotations of the word "wealth" in line 18. can someone please help?

Host means group i think, and wealth just means something of visual value in this case.

What is the difference between a web host like Joyent and a basic hosting company like GoDaddy?

April 152010

I’m trying to figure out which company to use for hosting the database that will be required for my small business. The business helps clients crunch certain information using a database (likely written in php).

I was referred to Joyent and it looks like a solid cloud host, but I’m also familiar with GoDaddy and they are much cheaper. Are they in the same ballpark in terms of what they can offer?

I haven’t tried Joyent but I’d stay away from godaddy.
Personally I have found IX to be the best of the lot.
