I sense an identity crisis in your question. First of all, your depiction of
what happens to us as physical entities is accurate. Secondly, any
religious practitioner worth his salt will tell you that man has a soul and
that the destination beyond death involves such a spiritual essence.
You are comparing apples to oranges. The evidence as to what happens
to our body is obvious and compelling. Even god dreamers realize this
and so they imagine a second aspect of existence on a spiritual plane.
Its too obvious to ignore. I seriously doubt that, if you visit the burial
rites practiced in various societies, that you will hear anything like
"we have gathered here to honor the life of our brother John who is,
even as we speak, being consumed by various other life forms".
Most of those rituals include some process intended to prevent the
deterioration of the body. Seems most humans have an understanding of
what happens when the body dies. They just don’t like to talk about it.

Yes, we are decomposed by tiny creatures like bacteria and worms, but that doesn't there is no heaven. Sure it sounds impossible and clearly doesn't sound logical, but I at least can imagine a place where our spiritual energy can be put to rest, or in other people`s words, I release my soul.
